The history of IAFF Local 5133.
Local 5133 is the union for Whidbey Island EMS professionals. We represent 57 members of the WhidbeyHealth EMS department, and firefighter/EMTs at North Whidbey Fire Rescue.
We stand together for fair contracts, safe staffing, professional EMS standards, and the people who answer the call on this island.
1978: modern EMS comes to Whidbey.
As emergency medicine modernized nationwide in the 1970s, Whidbey Island needed a structured, island-wide ambulance and paramedic system. In 1978, voters established the island’s first EMS levy. That levy is the foundation of the service our members staff today.

IAFF affiliation
We joined the International Association of Fire Fighters. Local 5133 bargains, represents members on the job, and stands with the IAFF and the Washington State Council of Fire Fighters.

Standing monthly meeting
Second Thursday of every month at 0900 hours
